How to Prepare for Your Wax
Let your hair grow
We strongly advise working with your body's natural hair growth cycles. Human hair follows 3 cycles of growth- hair is actively growing in, resting, or actively shedding. We encourage you to schedule your next waxing appointment 4 weeks after a hair removal service. Ideally, hair that is about 1/4 inch (.635 cm) in length is preferred. Waxing will be more painless and effective if you follow these guidelines. Vellus hair, since it is very fine and lacks pigment, (such as women's facial hair) is one exception to this rule.
Never shave between waxing appointments
Shaving is completely counterproductive to the waxing process. It causes hair to grow back as stubble instead of being soft and smooth, it irritates skin, and does not provide any lasting benefits when it comes to diminishing long-term hair growth.
Avoid applying lotion or body oils the day of your appointment
Lotions, creams and cosmetic oils can leave residue on hair, making it more difficult to remove. It is also a good idea to avoid deodorant when possible if you’re waxing your underarms.
Avoid waxing when your skin sensitivity may be higher
The best time to wax is a week after your menstrual cycle, when your pain threshold is highest. It is also sensible to avoid sun exposure right before and after your waxing appointment.
Wear clean clothing.
If you’re having your chest or back waxed, this is particularly important. Putting dirty clothing on freshly waxed skin can cause infected hair follicles, which can lead to ingrown hair and lesions that can be painful and unsightly. We often encourage our clients to bring an antihistamine cream to their chest and back appointments. As histamine reactions are very common on the chest and back, we will happily apply the cream for you after your appointment to assist in the reduction of irritation.
Schedule your wax 2 weeks before a special occasion if you are a first-time waxer
We encourage you to avoid scheduling an appointment right before a special event, vacation, or photoshoot. People can have various reactions to waxing, especially the first time. It is not uncommon to experience redness, irritation, or even bruising. While there is no cause for alarm if you experience any reaction listed above, making sure there is ample time before a special event until you know how your skin responds will be helpful if you do experience any irritation.
Communicate with your aesthetician before the appointment by filling out our consent form
We are professional aestheticians, it is important that you educate us regarding any allergies or skin sensitivities prior to your appointment. When we have all the pertinent information, we can better help you choose the hair removal method that is most appropriate for your skin type. Make sure to list any and all medications and beauty products used as they can affect skin sensitivity.
Hydrate
Drink plenty of water daily. Waxing dehydrated skin can be more painful because hair tends to be more difficult and stubborn to remove.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing
Wearing soft, loose clothing can help avoid irritating your skin after hair removal.
Exfoliate
We encourage gentle, daily exfoliation with a chemical exfoliant (such as an Alpha or Beta hydroxy acid) in addition to mechanical exfoliation (such as a clean loofah or exfoliating gloves). This powerhouse combination, performed lightly every day will help ensure less ingrown hair and promote healthier skin overall. The one exception- we advise is to avoid exfoliating 24 hours following your wax.
Get comfortable being exposed
Before your Brazilian wax, you will be asked to remove your pants and underwear. It is very common during these appointments to be naked from the waist down. We are a very professional waxing salon. Our experienced staff of highly skilled aestheticians have been thoroughly trained, and will treat you with the dignity and respect you deserve.
Pores remain open for 24 hours after a wax
There are a few activities we suggest you avoid for the first 24 hours post-wax until you know how your skin reacts. Physical intimacy, swimming, taking baths, using saunas, and working out are discouraged as these activities can introduce undesired bacteria that can potentially cause negative side effects.
Intimate Waxing
We know that not only females prefer to be waxed. As such, we confidently provide our services to everyone without regard to sex. We do not have separate pricing for these services based on sex. Male brazilians do require a higher skill level, and, due to our insistence for excellence, not every aesthetician will be proficient enough to perform this service immediately. Please be patient when scheduling, as this policy is in place to ensure that every client has the most positive experience possible. Our aestheticians are licensed professionals. We treat all intimate waxing as if it were any other clinical service occupation. We expect the same generosity and consideration in return.
